Hi, Daria,

Yes, I meant to add Radick's great take-away, as well, so I appreciate the comment. It is really important to remember to trust your people and not hold-up responses because you don't trust the person. I appreciate all your great insights.

Hi Debbie,

Nice recap. The one thing I would add (that's missing from my post too) is Radick's takeaway from the U.S. Navy to "approve the person, not the content." As in stop worrying so much about what people say and hire and train (and put into "social" jobs) people you trust in the first place.

Mary,
You provide some great advice and guidelines for using corporate logos for social media profile pictures. I agree, the logo is a great idea for a company Twitter feed/Facebook page, but it needs to be designed correctly.

I can't wait to see your next holiday decoration on your company Twitter site, and thanks for sharing your ideas.

What a fun article, and yes, I tried to convince DMV to let me keep my old driver's license photo once!

Design-wise, corporate logos as profile pics really pop on Twitter and Facebook when they incorporate white and bright color, because the feed is white. Black accents work, too. So, I think Twitter profile pictures for PBS News Hour, eMarketer, Gabriel Marketing, zcomm, Fletcher Prince etc. work well. Those are tiny pics, but they stand out.

But if you look at Freddie Mac, Busch Gardens, VA, or Forrester, you can tell they didn't design a profile pic w/Twitter in mind. They lose visual impact, and the underlying message conveyed can be "we don't get social media." That is not true for these particular companies of course, but it is something to watch out for.

I have two social media personas, one for me, and for my company. I use my logo for the company Twitter account and Facebook Page. But I can't resist decorating it for every holiday. So it will look a little different on Valentine's Day, St Patrick's Day, etc.

I like the "twibbons" that people add to their pics. It helps me learn about causes I didn't know about.
